Spinach is a leafy green vegetable which is originated in Persia and belongs to the amaranth family. It is considered a very healthy herb and here are nutrition facts and health benefits of spinach.

Cancer prevention and fighting

With its components of MGDG and SQDG, one of the most strong health and skin benefits of spinach is cancer prevention. A study revealed that these two components can work to slow tumor growth in a person’s cervix and decrease the size of the tumor. Other studies proved the spinach benefits in reducing the risk of prostate cancer and breast cancer. Moreover, as a source of antioxidants, spinach can fight cancer.

Oxidative stress

One of the most common spinach benefits is fighting oxidative stress. The oxidative stress can be caused by free radicals and trigger accelerated aging and increase the risk of cancer and diabetes. A study carried out on 8 healthy people showed the spinach benefits in preventing oxidative damage

Eye health

As a great source of zeaxanthin and lutein, spinach can bring the benefits for eyes. Zeaxanthin and lutein are responsible for color in several vegetables. These pigments protect your eyes from the damaged caused by sunlight and prevent blindness. Besides, they can reverse existing damage.

Help regulate blood pressure levels

Another benefit of spinach eating is to regulate blood pressure levels. With its high amount of nitrates, spinach can moderate blood pressure levels and decrease the risk of heart disease. This benefit of eating spinach was proved through a study carried out on 27 people, showing that daily comsumption of this plant can lower blood pressure levels.
