Why should fitness fashion industry change?



Ageism is common in the fitness fashion industry. You can easily find fitness clothes for kids, boys, girls, men, women,…but not for adults over 60. When we are promoting senior wellness and aging actively, what is happening with companies?

Why the fitness fashion industry dismisses workout clothes for elderly?

The Fitness wear companies are delivering the wrong message 

It seems that the message about active aging fitness has been dismissed by people in the industry for such a long time. The elderly are told that they cannot exercise if they are over 60. They believe that they cannot be fit just because they are aging. Fitness senior style seems not to be focused and companies will be regret not covering this potential customer group.

Senior wellness has been encouraged significantly. Why the fitness fashion industry dismisses workout clothes for elderly? If you notice, those fitness clothe companies do not use any models in their 60’s and 70’s. What are they afraid of? Are they afraid their products could not be sold if you put them on older women with wrinkles on their face and grey hair? There is nothing wrong about aging actively. As realizing the benefits of active ageing, the fitness fashion industry should deliver a message of keep moving, regardless of your age.

Fitness wear companies should focus more on seniors

Fitness wear companies, when planning their product segment, forget the question “what do you want for your mom and grandma? Whether you want them to sit in a chair all day until they die or you want them to take on active older adults exercises and live a happy life?

Go against the ageist message

Senior wellness is very important for your parents and grandparents. It is proud to exercise well into their 80’s. Plan workout routines for older adults and look for fitness clothes for seniors. The fitness fashion industry should change their mind to promote physical activity to seniors instead of being too cautiousness. Fitness clothes companies are seeking a new customer segment for their continuous development and seniors are a potential customer group that they have dismissed for a long time. What is better than promoting senior wellness while bringing your company a huge benefit?
