The tourism industry still has a significant influence on Japanese cosmetics market

Although domestic audiences are shrinking, personal care sales in Japan are booming thanks to Asian shopping travelers. Meanwhile, local brands are enjoying the export boom as Js beauty trend.

Foreign buyers are the major buyers

Cosmetics market in Japan continues to grow in 2017, with shipments exceeding 1.6 trillion yen ($ 14.34 billion) in the year to hit a new record high. This is an awe-inspiring number. It can be said that the beauty industry in Japan is still multiplying.

Almost all industries recorded revenue growth last year. Figures for the January to April 2018 period show that this aggression is being made this year, encoding well for individual care companies.

Domestic demand is stable thanks to the improved economy and new innovative products, analysts said. But overall, sales have been driven by the high number of foreign tourists attracting Japanese brands, with a high reputation for high quality and high value for money. Japan is one of the five “dragons” of Asia. This implies a country with tremendous growth.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, sales of personal care products in Japan in 2017 increased by 6.9% over the previous year, with particularly strong makeup lines, along with along with sun creams and perfumes & eau de colognes – not a robust traditional field in this market.

Only mens skincare and hair care products were contracted during the year, a growth of 0.02% on the previous year. This is not a small number. The reason is that mens skin care is still limited.

The womens skin care products have made particularly strong in the first four months of 2018. According to the Ministry, sales of moisturizers and special care increasing by nearly 16% and facial washes & cleansers up more than 9% year-on-year.
