The Star In World Of Watches - SIHH 2019
Richard Mille and the Goodness of Sweets
In recent years Richard Mille has always surprised us in the SIHH Watch Fair in Geneva. His collection may not be the most glorious or fabulous one but he has always changed the definition of watch in the collectors’ minds.
Last year, the watch that he used to show off in SIHH was RM53-01 tourbillon Pablo Mac Donough. This watch which is created in partnership with Argentinian polo player Pablo Mac Donough, looks like a classic Mille creation. It has the tonneau case in Carbon TPT, the visible spline screws, and the futuristic-looking open-worked movement taking center stage.

RM53-01 tourbillon Pablo Mac Donough blown the collectors’ mind at the time it appeared, and now its cousins are doing the same in this year. Mille has published not only one but ten different models with a unique theme – sweet.
The sweet theme of 2019 Mille’s collection is Bonbon, French for a candy or small confection. Each watch has a unique beauty with the special “candies” on it. And the most special one of this collection is the RM 16-01 Automatic Fraise and Citron.
What is it the most preferable one from the model? It may because of the inclusion of miniature sculptures on the dial, every painted in acrylics and lacquered by hand. As to make the miniatures much more real, Mille “sugar-coated” the sculptures with powdered enamel and superb sand for the frosted look. Each sculpture, be it a tart jelly ribbon, a twisty lollipop or citrus candies are positioned on the model’s grade 5 titanium plates simply above the motion.
