Here’s how fast fashion affects badly to our mental health

The shopping game

It’s hard to deny the exciting emotion when bargaining successfully or buying some clothes with the cheaper price. You will be proud of yourself when sniffing out the lowest possible price and you will recall those stories over and over again in a very detailed way.

It’s a game even if you think it doesn’t

You may not believe that shopping is a game. But the truth is that, it’s a game you have to play since shopping can boost levels of dopamine—as long as you’re still in the stage of desire. That explains why you have coveted something for weeks and only feel let down after buying it. And once you have found something new to desire, dopamine levels rise again and make you eager to buy that thing as fast as you can. All brands know that so they always have something new to discover and covet.

It’s not easy to resist trends

The fashion brands unveil the new collections at the beginning of every season. That makes our clothes seem “out of fashion” although they don’t. And because our clothes look like “out of fashion”, we covet new clothes. This cycle keeps repeating even though we have a very wardrobe with a host types of clothes.

So, how can we make sure we make conscious choices and break the cycle of rapid consumption?

The answer is gratitude. Whenever you feel like buying something, let think about your recent wardrobe. You’ve ready had enough, so why would you buy a new one? And if you want to buy something new, let ask yourself three question. 1 When will I wear this item? 2 Have I already had something that will go with it? 3 Do I really need this? Asking yourself these questions will give you time to make a better decision when buying new clothes.
