Niksen is the best way to reduce stress

For many of us, stress can come at anytime, at home or at work. No one can avoid all stress, but you can counteract its effects by learning ways to relax the mind. Some people reduce stress by practicing relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, rhythmic exercise and yoga. Niksen is one of the latest wellness trends, it can help put the brakes on stress, and bring your body and mind back into a state of equilibrium.

What is Niksen?

Niksen is an increasingly popular Dutch relaxation technique for stress. It “literally means to do nothing, to be idle or doing something without any use”. Niksen is also being considered as a twist on mindfulness, a practice that’s supposed to make us happier, healthier and more resilient. While mindfulness is about being present in the moment, Niksen is more about letting your mind wander rather than focusing on the details of an action.

What are the benefits of niksen?

Niksen is known as a stress relief therapy, because of the benefits that it brings to our health.

Slow down our emotion

When stress overwhelms our nervous system, our body tends to prepare us for a fight. When it constantly happens, it can wear our body down and take a toll on our emotional and physical health. Practicing niksen can help reduce anxiety or strengthen our body’s ability to fight off a common cold. It certainly does benefit our health.

Make us more creative

Research supports the idea that doing nothing or doing something without purpose allows our minds to wander. Therefore, it can improve our ability to solve a problem that we might have been stuck on earlier. This process can also inspire a person to achieve his or her goals and gain clarity about the actions to take so that they can meet those goals in the future.
Although practicing niksen is not that simple, you can do it step by step, take a few minutes each day. In the end, you will find it as the best way to reduce stress and find the feelings of happiness again.
