Natural remedies to deal with neurological problems

Nowadays, the more life develops, the more people face with stress and pressure. This is the main cause of mental decline, depression and other kinds of neurological diseases. However, with the study of traditional medicine, people can solve these problems with a lot of natural remedies.

Hypericum Perforatum

St. John’s Wort (or Hypericum Perforatum) is famous for its antidepressant effects. The herb is known for many different names such as Perforate St John’s Wort, Common Saint John’s Wort or St. John’s Wort. This is the most effective herb in Germany, which is researched and developed by Commission E (Germany). This kind of herb contains many chemicals such as hypericin, hyperforin and pseudohypericin which can support antidepressant.

St. John’s Wort is being studied to treat emotional disorder such as anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and mood swings during menopause.

However, we should not use St. John’s Wort together with contraceptive pill, anti-epileptic drugs and other medications which include antidepressants drugs. So, if you are using these medications, get doctor’s advice before you want to use St. John’s Wort.

Ginkgo biloba

Most useful components of Ginkgo biloba are flavonoid (powerful antioxidants) and terpenoids which helps improve blood circulation by dilating blood vessels and reducing “stickiness” of platelets. Most studies about Ginkgo biloba focus on its effects on amnesia and pain due to too little blood flow.

This kind of herb can act as an antioxidant to slow Alzheimer process and interfere with changes in the brain associated with thinking. Ginkgo biloba seeds contain substances which can kill bacteria and fungi that cause infections for our body. Seeds also contain toxins which can cause serious side effects such as seizures and loss of consciousness; therefore, users need to ask for doctor’s advice before using this kind of herbal remedy.


Ashwagandha is one of the most important herbs in Ayurveda medicine (a Hindu medicine originating from the Indian subcontinent) based on Indian natural healing principles. For over 3000 years, this herbal remedy has been used to reduce stress, boost energy and improve concentration. Ashwagandha has many health benefits due to high content of withanolide, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effect.

“Ashwagandha” in Sanskrit means “smell of horses” to refer to both unique smell that it carries and the ability to enhance strength.

Apart from three kinds of natural remedies mentioned above, there are many other herbs which can support patients in treating mental problems. However, let’s carefully consider about their use, components, side effects and get doctor’s advice before use.
