Mushrooms have excellent cancer prevention effects



Mushrooms are not only delicious, but also have many health benefits.  Scientists recently discovered that just eating a few mushrooms a day can reduce the risk of cancer by up to 45%.

The study is done by experts at Penn State Cancer Institute (USA).  It is reported that the team analyzed data from 17 different cancer studies.

These studies collected data from about 19,500 people.  The purpose of the study was to find a link between eating mushrooms and cancer.  The team found that just eating 18 grams of mushrooms per day can reduce the risk of cancer by up to 45%.

"We found a link between eating more mushrooms and a lower risk of cancer, especially breast cancer. This shows the potential role of mushrooms in the daily diet ”, said the study authors.

 "These findings provide important evidence for the protective effects of fungi against cancer," said John Richie, a professor of public health, a member of the research team.

In the future, we need to continue research to determine the biological mechanisms of mushrooms as well as the types of cancers that fungi can prevent.

The study authors also reported that the amount of 18 grams / day is a relative estimate.  There is evidence that the health benefits of mushrooms depend more or less depending on the type of mushroom and how we cook it.

Mushrooms are a good source of proteins, vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants.  More and more research is showing the effective anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of the mushrooms.

 In particular, mushrooms contain ergothioneine, a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that humans have yet to synthesize.  Shiitake mushrooms, abalone mushrooms, maitake mushrooms and clam mushrooms are all varieties with higher levels of ergothioneine than many other mushrooms.
