McLaren launches new hybrid supercar Artura
“All McLaren's experience and expertise has been poured into Artura. Our all-new high-performance hybrid system delivers all of McLaren's signature performance, driver intervention and outstanding dynamics, along with the superb ease of use of an electric vehicle.
The birth of Artura was a landmark for McLaren, for our customers who will appreciate and love this car on all emotional and rational levels, as well as for our customers with the world of super cars” said Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren Automotive.
McLaren's new hybrid supercar called Artura./ ph: McLaren
This engine features a “hot-V” setup with two turbochargers positioned inside two rows of cylinders and an angle between the shores of 120 degrees; Capable of spinning at speeds up to 8,500 rpm, producing a maximum power of 585 hp and 585 Nm of torque, achieving a power / capacity ratio of nearly 200 hp / liter.
McLaren's new V6 engine weighs only 160 kg, up to 50 kg lighter than previous V8 engines.
Combined with this engine is an electric motor located in the car's dual clutch gearbox. This engine gives the Artura 95 hp and 225 Nm of torque.
With this engine, Artura will provide more responsive driver feedback than ever.
The super car capable of accelerating to 100 km/h from a stationary position in 3 seconds, 0 - 200 km / h in 8.3 seconds, 0 - 300 km / h in 21.5 seconds and speed the maximum is limited to 330 km / h.
Thanks to a tilt angle of up to 120 degrees, the Artura's V6 was able to be placed lower, thereby reducing the vehicle's center of gravity. Along with the new design is a series of accompanying technologies such as 3D printed radiator with a diameter of only 0.2 mm, the cylinder heart is coated with anti-wear, "hot-V" configuration ... These technologies are not only helps the engine to be shorter than the previous V8 engine but also reduces by nearly 250 mm in horizontal.
To achieve a power / capacity ratio up to nearly 200 hp / liter, McLaren equips a turbocharger that uses a new bearing technology to help reduce friction. The bearings also help the intake rotors rotate faster, while the electronically controlled outlets provide the best pressure control for the entire system to eliminate turbocharging lag. The engine body, engine cover, and piston are all made of aluminum to reduce weight.
On Artura, McLaren uses an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, but the number of gears inside remains the same. This is explained when the mechanical reverse gear has been removed, instead of the 8 gearbox.
In addition, the transmission controls both the internal combustion engine and the electric motor, so, in electric mode, it completely shuts off the wheels and the gasoline engine. When used at low speeds, the electric motor has smoother control over the gearbox.
Artura's electric motor weighs only about 15 kg and produces nearly 100 horsepower. The car is equipped with a 7.4 kWh capacity battery with the ability to charge 80% of its capacity in just 2.5 hours using an EVSE charging cord.
Artura is McLaren's first commercial vehicle to use an all-new MCLA chassis platform, developed and manufactured at its composite technology center in Sheffield, UK.
McLaren Artura owns a high-performance brake system with 390 mm brake disc / six-piston brake shackle on the front and 380 mm / four-piston on the rear, providing the ability to stop from a speed of 100 km / h to a standing still position in just 31m and 200 km / h to a standing still position within 126m.
Vehicles equipped with 19-inch wheels at the front and 20 inches at the rear, Pirelli tires size 235/35 ZR19 and 295/35 ZR20.
McLaren continues to use hydraulic power steering for Artura instead of electric power steering like the McLaren GT. The company says this will help the car have a feeling of driving and help the driver to be more active.
Coming to the exterior, McLaren Artura owns a "shrink-wrap" style design that covers the carbon fiber skeleton inside.
McLaren's characteristic lines continue to be used on this model with a minimalistic level and each air cavity, wind slot, duct is placed in their correct position with certain functions.
McLaren Artura will have a starting price of $225,000 / ph: McLaren
Artura customers can choose from 31 different exterior paint colors, including three new paint colors including Flux Green, Ember Orange and Plateau Gray and 16 MSO paint colors.
Many carbon fiber upgrade packages will also be sold, provided by MSO while the carbon fiber spoiler will be available on the market in September 2021.
Inside, the new McLaren Artura's cockpit has been upgraded to help the driver become more comfortable in the process of controlling his supercar, while providing the necessary comfort. Vehicles will be sold with electric seats as standard, with integrated heating while Clubsport sports seats will be optional.
Regardless of the chair type, the sitting posture has been designed by engineers to provide a comfortable feeling and less obscure vision.
Behind the steering wheel is a new 6.4 inch screen, completely replacing the previous dashboard of the 570S. The steering wheel adjustment switches are integrated on either side of the dashboard instead of the center screen as before.
Artura is also equipped with a variety of applications such as track monitoring systems, tail throw control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto as well as the ability to update software remotely.
The all-new McLaren Artura will have a starting price of 225,000 USD and will be available on the market in the third quarter of this year.
The company will sell this model with five configurations including Performance with color schemes and sporty details, TechLux offers luxury but equally "high-tech" and Vision with futuristic and adventurous color schemes.
