Malassezia Folliculitis / Pityrosporum Folliculitis treatment

This Pityrosporum Folliculitis condition is quite common, manifested with papular lesions, pustules with itchy, single form along the edge of hairline, upper back, chest.  This condition is also known as Malassezia Folliculitis.  Usually due to an overgrowth of the normal yeasts that live on the skin of each person.

Oily skin is the food of certain strains of yeast, so it is common in people who tend to have oily skin that often relapses.  And sometimes with antibiotics, certain hormonal drugs can make the condition worse.

Pityrosporum Folliculitis is sometimes misdiagnosed with regular acne, and can therefore worsen the condition with treatment.  The reason is that the use of certain antibiotics in acne can make the condition worse.  Meanwhile, drugs with antifungal active ingredients work much better in these situations.

Acne and Pityrosporum Folliculitis can occur together, especially in patients with oily and easily clogged skin due to follicular keratinization, and long-term therapy with antibiotics.  But sometimes Pityrosporum Folliculitis is caused simply by the yeast available in the environment, on the skin and behaves similar to acne.  Diagnosis in these situations is extremely important.

The condition usually presents with papular, pustular lesions of a small size (ranging from 1 to 2 mm) that are similar to monomorphic follicular keratosis.  And often there is accompanying itch.  Additional conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis or vitiligo (about 20% in some reports) may be seen.  The disease usually manifests itself in the upper forehead, going to the edge of the hairline and the upper back.  Upper out arm.  Contrary to it, acne usually causes less itching.  Typically, monofacial lesions include open, closed nuclei, inflammatory papules, pustules as well as cystic, nodular.  It should be noted that acne can also appear on the forehead, hairline and upper back.

This condition is considered benign, the symptoms can cause itching and discomfort but it usually does not say anything about serious health problems of the body.  Mainly the disease is diagnosed based on clinical features, and may be accompanied by other additional tests such as fungal scans in some necessary situations.

There are many options that can be used for Malassezia Folliculitis / Pityrosporum Folliculitis treatment.  The most widely used is the use of ketoconazole shampoos or antifungal active shampoos to treat, apply bathe and stay on the skin for 5-10 minutes every other day.  Or for severe cases, you can use oral antifungal in combination with anti-inflammatory products, acne treatment, topical fungus.

With the correct diagnosis and treatment, symptoms can improve within 3-4 weeks, but a characteristic of the condition is very easy to relapse, especially with prolonged use of antibiotics.  To prevent relapse, you should continue to maintain an antifungal shampoo product in a weekly manner to minimize the risk of recurrence.  Taking probiotic products along with them can be a good option for those who experience frequent recurrences of Malassezia Folliculitis / Pityrosporum Folliculitis.

In addition, the patient also needs to adjust the daily skin care regimen appropriately, limit the oily condition that clog and create a favorable environment for flare-up again.
