L’Oréal and Amazon launch new AI beauty app

June 08, 2019

Now Amazon shoppers on mobile will be able to test out different shades of lipstick on live pics and videos of themselves by a new AI beauty app thanks to a newest collaboration between L’Oréal and Amazon.

The deployment took place a year after L’Oréal partnered with Facebook to allow social network users to use virtual try on makeup patterns via the Facebook application.

This AI beauty app lets you digitally try on makeup

Virtual makeup app that allow you to virtual try on makeup are nothing new, but L’Oréal hopes to bring them to more people by integrating ModiFace, the augmented augmented reality (AR) provided by AI. level, with Amazon’s growing product portfolio. From this week, Amazon shoppers on mobile devices will be able to test different shades of lipstick on their live photos and videos.

Head of Amazon Beauty – Nicolas Le Bourgeois said: “We are excited to team up with ModiFace to make shopping for cosmetics online even easier by offering customers the ability to virtually try-on before they buy. With this new AI-powered virtual experience, Amazon customers can now … purchase with greater confidence — wherever they are, whenever they want, with products delivered right to their doorstep. This launch is another important milestone in our vision to be the best possible place for customers to discover and buy beauty products online.”

In selected beauty lists, shoppers will soon be able to try most products with their front-facing cameras or preview them on model photos. All are provided by ModiFace ED AR simulation, using data analysis offered by makeup brands along with images and product descriptions from social media.

Amazon recently revealed a collection of makeup products under the domestic apparel brand. A 2016 survey published by A.T. Kearny found 69% of American women shopping online for beauty products started looking at Amazon and reported from Edge by Ascential showing sales of health care and personal care items on the platform. It amounted to $1.9 billion in the second quarter of 2018. Meanwhile, sales for beauty products rose 26% to $950 million.
