IS DERMATOGRAPHIA SERIOUS?

Dermatographia, urticaria are quite common symptoms, easy to meet but difficult to completely treat.  Although it is not life-threatening, it affects the aesthetics, health and life of the patient.  Knowing the causes, signs and symptoms of dermatographia will help people find the appropriate and effective treatment.

IS DERMATOGRAPHIA SERIOUS?

I. What is dermatographia?

Dermatographia is a condition also known as writing skin.  When people with dermatographia lightly scratch their skin, the red scratches rise into a scum that resemble a rash.  These marks usually go away within 30 minutes.

The cause of dermatographia is unknown, but it can be triggered in some people due to an infection, emotional discomfort, or medications such as penicillin.

Most people with dermatographia do not seek treatment.  If your signs and symptoms are particularly bothersome, your doctor may recommend allergy medications such as cetirizine (Zyrtec) or diphenhydramine (Benadryl).

II. Signs and symptoms of dermatographia

The signs and symptoms of dermatographia may include:

- The red line emerged

-  Swelling

-  Inflammation

- The solder is like a falcon

-  Itching

Signs and symptoms of dermatographia can appear within minutes after skin is rubbed or scratched and usually disappear within 30 minutes.  Rarely, dermatographia diseases develop more slowly and last from a few hours to a few days.

The condition itself can last for months or years.

III. When to see a doctor?

See your doctor if your signs and symptoms of dermatographia are particularly bothersome.

IV. What is the cause of dermatographia?

The exact cause of dermatographia is not clear.  It can be caused by an allergic reaction, but has yet to identify the specific allergen.

Simple things can cause the symptoms of a skin disease.  For example, rubbing from clothing or bedding can irritate the skin.  Sometimes, a pre-existing dermatosis is caused by an infection, an unpleasant feeling, or taking medications, such as penicillin.

V.  Risk factors of dermatographia

Dermatographia can occur at any age, but it tends to be more common among teenagers and young adults.  If you have other skin conditions, such as dry skin or dermatitis, you may be more prone to skin disease.  Any skin condition that causes the urge to scratch frequently can increase the risk of dermatographia.

VI. Prevention of dermatographia

To reduce discomfort and prevent the symptoms of dermatographia, try the following tips:

- Avoid irritating skin

Do not use harsh soap on your skin.  Do not wear clothing that is irritating, such as wool.  Hot showers or showers can worsen symptoms.

-  Don't scratch your skin

If you have a dermatographia or other skin condition that can cause frequent itching, try to avoid scratching the skin.  Scratching will aggravate the condition.

-  Moisturizes your skin

Dry skin tends to make it itchy.  Moisturize the skin by using lotions after bathing.

VII. Diagnosis of dermatographia

A doctor can diagnose a dermatographia disease with a simple test.  He or she will draw a tongue lowering tool on the skin of your arm or back to see if a red, swollen, or watery (milky) line appears within minutes.

VIII. Dermatographia treatment

Signs and symptoms of dermatographia usually go away on their own, and treatment for the skin disease is generally not necessary.  However, if the dermatographia condition is severe or bothersome, your doctor may recommend antihistamines such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl), fexofenadine (Allegra), or cetirizine (Zyrtec).

IX. Prepare for your appointment for a dermatographia treatment

You can start by seeing your primary care physician.  However, in some cases when you call to make an appointment, you may be immediately referred to a specialist who specializes in skin conditions (dermatologists) or allergists (doctors  allergy).

Here is some information to help you prepare for your appointment for dermatographia treatment.

1. What can you do?

At the time of your appointment, be sure to ask in advance if you have anything you need to do, such as not taking an antihistamine for the previous few days.

2. You may also want:

- Write down any signs and symptoms of dermatographia you are experiencing, including any symptoms that seem irrelevant to why you scheduled your appointment.

- Write down key personal information, including any major stresses or recent life changes.

- Make a list of all medications, vitamins, or supplements you are taking.

3. What to expect from your doctor?

Your doctor will probably ask you a number of questions, including:

- When did you start experiencing signs and symptoms of dermatographia?

- Did your signs and symptoms of dermatographia precede a new illness or medication?

- Are your signs and symptoms of dermatographia persistent or infrequent?

- How serious are your signs and symptoms of dermatographia?

-  Do your signs and symptoms of dermatographia limit you activities or interfere with your lifestyle

- Are you allergic?  For what?

-  Do you have dry skin or any other skin condition?

-  Did anything improve your signs and symptoms of dermatographia?

- Is there anything that makes your signs and symptoms of dermatographia worse?
