A corona-infected mother could not smell her diaper smells. The ordinary chef can read the name of each aromatherapy in the restaurant but suddenly can not smell the garlic or curry’ flavors and tasting any dishes is also feeling insipid. Many people say that they can not smell the sweetness of shampoo fragrance.

According to the New York Times, symptoms of aforementioned decreased olfactory and tasting abilities are said to be one of the signals of the COVID-19 infected patient.

On March 20,  some otolaryngologists in Britain have shown sources from many other colleagues around the world and advice a 7-day self-quarantine to adults who reduced olfactory capacity, even if they are asymptomatic with COVID-19. Although the data is incomplete, the doctors urged  these symptoms may be early warnings before the COVID-19 was found.

Ms. Hopkins and Nirmal Kumar, president of ENT in UK- who represent for a group of Otolaryngologists in the UK-gave a general announcement to encourage medical personnels to use personal protective equipments when treating patients who reduced olfactory ability, and to cut down sinus endoscopic procedures when not necessary.

According to Dr. Hopkins, two otolaryngologist in England are being infected with the Coronavirus are now in critical condition. Reports from Wuhan, China showed otolaryngologists and eye doctors are whom easy to be infected the disease and death.

The British doctor group cited the source of reports from other countries that showed a large amount of patients infected coronavirus were reduced olfactory ability. In Korea, 30% of the 2,000 patients who are positive with COVID-19 said their olfactory are significantly weaken.

On March, the American academy of Ear, Nose and Throat posted information on their site indicating that there is a lot of evidence that decreased olfactory and tasting ability are obvious symptoms associated with COVID-19, and these symptoms are available in patients who have not yet been found to be infected.

Therefore, if the patient has not a reduce of olfactory ability when there is no allergies and sinusitis, the doctors should quickly test and “Give a serious warning about the isolation of these patients “. The Center for American Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has advised people to defer meetings in the next few weeks and change the working procedures.

Dr. Rachel Kaye, associate professor at the Otolaryngology Department at Rutgers, says her colleagues in New Rochelle, New York, have warned her about this issue. Accordingly, patients who complain about without ability to smell the taste afterwards all have positive result with the Coronavirus.

At the most heavily raging COVID-19 plague in Italy, doctors said they consider the symptom “loss of olfactory and taste abilities” to the list of symptoms that a person may be carrying on his coronavirus and easy to contagious the disease for others.

Many doctors in Germany indicate that almost half of the patients infected with COVID-19 suffer from a loss of the ability to smell and taste flavors, and this symptom often appears after the first symptoms of respiratory illness. These can be considered a sign to find out who should test the coronavirus.

Amy Plattmier, a woman in Brooklyn, did not test the Coronavirus when she was sick, but her husband was infected and determined positive. Ms. Plattmier says in normal her nose is very hearing, but now she can’t smell anything-including the detergent smell that makes her feel sick or the smell of animals raised in her house.
