Things you should know about teenage rhinoplasty

April 17, 2019

Teenager rhinoplasty has been at the forefront of cosmetic surgery procedures for decades. Recently, a surge in this cosmetic procedure has skyrocketed in the youth community for many reasons including social media and celebrities.

Contains many dangers

There has been a certain increase in adolescents undergoing nasal augmentation procedures, making it one of the most popular plastic surgery performed in this population. Teenagers now have more access to information about it than ever before with the popularity and advent of social media. Notable celebrities have contributed to the increase in rhinoplasty procedures including Kim Kardashian, Bella Hadid, Jessica Simpson, Lady Gaga and Zac Efron.

Although the nose is at the center of the face, it does not mean the most striking feature. Teenage rhinoplasty is currently being understood as a procedure that allows one nose to not be distracted from the rest of the face. A distracting nose is one that draws its attention, instead of allowing attention to the typical traits we want to see when interacting with someone like the eyes and mouth.

Unfortunately, some teenagers feel unhappy with their nose, even without pressure from colleagues and social media. Once teenagers start to self-conscious about their noses, it is usually several years before they have the support of their parents and confidently moves forward with a surgical nose lift.

If your children have problems with rhinoplasty surgery, do not rush to dismiss it. Lets discuss why your teenage feels the way they do about their nose and try to understand if this is a recent thought or if this is something they see online, or if this is what theyve been thinking about for a long time. If they have thought about this for a long time, it is unlikely that this will disappear during their early and late years of maturity. This is an opportunity for parents at this time to become partners with their youth in guiding them and helping them find a qualified professional and a person with the best opportunity to produce results.

Facial cosmetic surgery when young must be approached very subtly. Teens should not touch the nose until the nose reaches its adult size. This usually happens between the ages of 15 and 16 for girls and for men, it is anywhere from 18 to 21.

These cartilage fragments can warp after a few years, making the nasal tip initially crooked. Conversely, if a nose is significantly reduced in size and suitable structural fragments are not used, there may be a collapse that can cause both breathing problems and aesthetic concerns.

Consider carefully before making a decision to have plastic surgery.
