Elon Musk wants to send humans to Mars by 2026
Billionaire Elon Musk recently expressed his great ambition to send humans to Mars by 2026, ahead of the 2033 goal of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
According to Spuntik, speaking at the 2020 Mars Social Online Conference, the founder of the SpaceX corporation announced that he aims to build a city on Mars before World War 3.

The billionaire said that it's helpful to set the goal of creating a self-sustaining city on Mars. This must be a goal, not simply a few people on it or a base, but to maintain an entire city.
Elon Musk added it is important to test whether a Martian colony will die if supplies from Earth stop working for any reason, even when the nuclear disaster happens. If that happens, this place is not a safe destination, pointed out the billionaire.
The tech billionaire says that Mars is not an option for humans to escape if we cannot sustain life on it. It would be meaningless if you simply move in a lifeboat from one place to another and soon run out of essentials, which in turn leads to death.
The tech billionaire concludes that building a self-sufficient city can reduce the risk of existence for civilization in general and have a future destination for a space-traveling civilization.

SpaceX Corporation has conducted two test flights for the Starship spacecraft. However, the two trials were only successful at the initial launch stage. Upon returning to the ground, landing difficulty caused the prototypes to fall and explode.
