Don’t try to reject your body

Social media has set different beauty standards. These beauty standards, in some ways, steal our confidence. We know that accepting your body shape is not easy, but just give it a try.

I am holding my phone and posting my photo on Social media channels as usual. It is quite similar to another time. However, there is one big difference that I realize. I am posting this without thinking of diet culture and without editing to make myself perfect or attractive. Radical body acceptance had never been easy to me – who with the body and diet exhaustion. I type the caption “It is worth accepting your body shape”.


In spite of my effort getting rid of the diet culture and body obsession, my brain seems to tell me to delete the post because it is not perfect and attractive as I was used to be. There are many flighting thoughts on my head about body acceptance, mainly supporting for my confidence but..Actually, my feelings are messed. I have always looked myself as “not enough”, not perfect enough, not attractive enough. This is the reason why I was trapped in diet culture and diet exhaustion.

I come to realize that I am the harshest critic of myself, which makes it harder to have a positive thought about my body. Thus, body acceptance seems very difficult to me. I have come through a long period of hating myself, hating my body and hating my face.



There was a time I wished to be a different person, trying to find some peace with the idea of surgery that how to become more attractive and beautiful. However, I am not feeling cured. A magic dose of body love actually does not exist of all sudden. I used to suffer from diet exhaustion and find no joy in foods. It was like a rock in my stomach. And instead of eating things that I love, I got sick of complicated food choices every day. That’s when I found influencers who could show me that you could happy and free in any body shape.

Rather than considering the fat level or carb level of everything consumed, I learn about body acceptance. Your size can never determine what you worth, just be healthy and happy with it is what i realized after all.
