Lancôme (€46)

Lancôme (L’Oréal) first launched its cushion foundation in 2015, and in 2016 followed with its first fullcoverage version. Teint Idole Ultra Cushion features patented Polar Cushion Technology which locks in thicker and creamier textures since it is covered with a unique mesh of intertwined fibres which offer more space to the formula.

The brands probducts can meet the demand for high coverage, while the rigidity of the fibres also allows the formula to maintain freshness. The touch-activated filter, meanwhile, is designed to dispense the correct amount of formula with every application for a liquid foundation that does not spill or leak. The hydrating formula is also lightweight and leaves a natural-looking matte finish-said the brand.

Clinique (£30)

Clinique (Estée Lauder) introduced its first cushion compact this summer, creating a multi-tasking formula that claims to provide weightless coverage, SPF50 protection and a long lasting matte finish. Super City Block BB Cushion Compact SPF 50 incorporates a liquid BB cream which is imbedded into a cushiony sponge, together with an applicator puff. Used with the formula, Clinique says that it creates an unexpected cooling sensation on the skin to leave it refreshed and energised. The formula is also claimed to provide instant hydration and buildable coverage, while controlling oil and shine.

YSL Beauté (€35)

YSL Beauté (L’Oréal) has taken a different approach with its launch of a ‘cushion-stamp foundation ink’ which offers a long lasting, luminous and shine-free finish with high coverage. Le Cushion Encre de Peau features a rolling gel system that enables the user to build the formula, leaving behind long wearing colour and a skin-perfecting matte effect. The product, which first launched exclusively in Asia in February this year, has a lightweight texture and keeps skin moisturised.

Yves Rocher (€29.80)

Yves Rocher Coussin de Teint Aérien is designed to combine the practicality of a compact foundation with the brightness and lightweight features of a liquid foundation. Offering a fresh texture, the cushion foundation is said to immediately illuminate the complexion and smooth the features, while also offering adjustable coverage to help the wearer to obtain their desired effect. The formula also contains babassu seed oil to provide nourishment and is paraben and fragrance-free.

The Body Shop (US$27)

The Body Shop (L’Oréal) has also muscled in on the trend with Fresh Nude Cushion Foundation, which it says combines the freshness of a liquid foundation and the practicality of a compact. Offering SPF25 PA++ and 24- hour moisturisation, the compact offers buildable semi-matte coverage for shinefree skin. The formula is 100% vegan and contains 100% organic Community Trade Aloe Vera from Mexico, for a cooling effect, Community Trade marula oil for smooth coverage and English rose water to moisturise.

Models Own (£5.99)

Models Own has struck out on its own and put a twist on the cushion technology trend. The brand has created the K-Kushion collection, which applies the cushion applicator format to eye and lip colour. The collection is designed to offer high intensity pigments for a colour-popping look by dabbing and blending the products directly onto the skin. K-Kushion Eyeshadow is a range of five metallic shadows that are dispensed via a cushion for a buildable and long lasting shimmering finish. The range also includes creamy liquid lipsticks, blusher in a cream-gel formula and illuminating creams for a strobing effect.
