Climate crisis: the planet is bawling

March 27, 2020

In recent years and months, the news like July 2019 was the hottest month on record. Global warming facts are real and are causing serious effects on not only the environment but also all the living things on the planet, including human beings.

What causes the earth to warm?

Most people hear about greenhouse gases when it comes to global warming effects, but few understand how it works. Greenhouse gases have the ability to trap solar radiation in the Earth’s atmosphere like a blanket. The heat is kept, thus heating up the planet instead of diffusing as it should be. Carbon dioxide, of course, is needed as the planet would be too cold to live without it. However, the excessive amount of carbon dioxide has put the earth in a dangerous point because of the serious global warming effects  it causes as follow.

Greenhouse gases have changed our planet

The greenhouse gas is making negative global warming potential effects.

#Which greenhouse gas has the most global warming potential?

The high negative global warming potential greenhouse gases include hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs) and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6).

The ice in the two poles is melting at a fast pace. That climate change is happening fastly causes major changes in the Earth’s polar region. Ice melting in the oceans and the ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica leads the earth ice to disappear. In Alaska, the lack of ice is the major reason for fish and animal die-offs and coastal flooding.

The loss of billion tons of ice means the rising sea levels all around the world. According to scientists, the global average sea level has risen by more than 8 inches since 1990 and most of the rising process was in the last 25 years. The sea level is estimated to rise on average by 1 to 4 feet by 2100, causing many parts of the world and many cities to be underwater.

Human health is also affected by these changes in our earth. The World Health Organization predicted that the rise in global temperatures could lead more than 250,000 deaths a year in the 20-year period from 2030 to 2050. And we do not need to wait for these years to see its real effects. Bug-borne diseases, heat stroke, malaria, diarrhoea, malnutrition, food shortages have put human beings in danger.

It might a little bit late to start protecting our planet by preventions of global warming and how to solve global warming, but better late than never. We need to do it for our future.
