According to the Skyscanner Travel Trend Report, Nearly 60 per cent of Hong Kong respondents said that bed was their place of choice for trip planning. The data from Skyscanner mobile app also showed that 11pm to 1am is the peak usage time for Hong Kong travelers.

That late-night travel booking phenomenon may connect to another travel trend which is affected by social media. Nearly 63 per cent of Hong Kong travelers think celebrities and influencers on social media have a major impact on their choice of travel destinations. And among the travelers, the young from 18 to 29 seem to be influenced most by social media.

Another factor that affects their destination choice is what scroll through their social media pages as a form of entertainment. The Skyscanner will do more researches, surveys,… to give us a clearer conclusion of the effect of this behavior.

Apart from social media, Skyscanner also noted what is featured on TV at particular times can increase the search for certain destinations. For example, the shows like Sammy on the Go, Fun Abroad and DoDo Goes Shopping have a strong influence on Hong Kong travelers.

The number of travelers using their smartphones to search for the destinations and booking holidays is rising by 14% compared to the number in 2017 but  there are just as many using a laptop or desktop computer. That’s because it is much easier and more convenient to book through laptop or computer.
