According to a report, the sales of shampoo among black customers are forecast to increase 7.3% in 2017. This is the largest growth rate to be seen in the hair care market in the last 5 years.

Shampoo is not a basic product used only for cleansing anymore, but for maintaining healthy hair and styling the hair. The shampoo sales are forecast to increase, with the creation of product lines, especially with formulations for hair care problems and goals.
Half of the black customers often wash their hair once per week or a couple of times per month. On average, they spend around one hour on hair maintenance on days when washing the hair if compared with about 21 minutes on normal days. Besides, more than half of them said that they often use 3-4 different hair care products.
Nowadays, when the trend for relaxed looks is still popular, more black consumers want to wear their natural hair. Therefore, the sales of relaxer products are dropping, down 36.6% from 2012 to 2017. Tellingly, more than 3/4 of customers have applied their natural hairstyle last year, compared to 36% who have straightened their hair and 28% who have applied a relaxed hairstyle. Relaxer-free and natural hair is common for most black customers, especially among young customers who are adapted various styles.
