Augmented reality on smart watches is a new technology that is being used by many luxury timepiece brands in the world. Let’s take a look into it!

There is a huge change in the watch industry with the augmented reality trends recently. As luxury brands are adopting digital marketing and social media, AR technology is an important factor which helps these brands connect with their customers, and immerses them in the making process.

How does AR technology work?

One of the well-known timepiece brands which uses the AR technology to bring their customers into the design process is Meerson Watches. The owners of the watches are allowed to work with the watchmakers to design their own pieces and see the digital version of their watches. During the design process, the famous brand uses the technology of AR to let their consumers view an advanced picture with the watch’s accurate size. Additionally, customers are also able to discover what went into the watches and when the process is finished, they can use the AR features as an interactive manual.

What about other luxury watch brands?

Ulysse Nardin is one of the most famous Swiss watchmakers that recently applied the technology of augmented reality on watches through a pop-up at Watches of Switzerland in New York. They use Leap Motion software to let consumers visualize the mechanics. Another watchmaker Girard-Perregaux introduced a virtual try-on app through augmented reality with smartwatch. Similar to Girard-Perregaux, Rolex also launched their AR try-on app last year to offer a luxury viewing experience for their customers. This experience let them gain a clear picture of them wearing the watches on their wrists. Likewise, Watchbox just released a feature on the app with the inventory of available watches while other brands like Cartier, IWC, Panerai, Piaget are getting their stories told through a 3D experience.

With that being said, it is possible that the application of AR technology and 3D printing will be used more in the future. Therefore, watch brands should be aware of how important it is to apply the technology in order to improve their customer’s experience.
